DIY All Natural Healing Salve

Cuts, scrapes, bruises, razor burn and even tattoos—they all need to be cared for to ensure the fastest healing with the least amount of scarring. This healing salve is all natural and harnesses the healing powers of flowers and honey! This recipe makes quite a bit, so it’s definitely worth investing in the dried flowers (the flowers also make fabulous teas!). I have been holding onto this concoction for months, waiting to use it on myself. But as it turns out, I’m not very accident prone. So I used my husband as the guinea pig instead 🙂 He recently had some work done on his sleeve, and used the healing salve in place of a moisturizer. Not only did his tattoo heal extremely fast, he skipped the scabbing stage completely, leaving his colors bright, bold, and even! This is a great alternative for those who are allergic to Neosporin and other store bought antibiotic ointments. Grab your apron (and pointy hat, if you have one) and get cookin!

• 1/2 cup coconut oil

• 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil

• 1/4 cup dried comfrey

• 1/4 cup dried calendula

• 2oz beeswax

• 2 tablespoons raw honey

• 10 drops lavender essential oil

• In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the oil and flowers and cook for 20 – 30 minutes, stirring often.

• Strain the flowers through a cheesecloth or coffee filter. The oil will be hot, so be careful. Make sure you are straining the oil into something that can withstand heat.

• Return the oil to the pot and reduce the heat to low.

• Stir in the honey until thoroughly mixed.

• Add in the beeswax and stir until melted.

• Remove from heat and add your essential oil.

• Pour into a clean jar, and stir occasionally as it cools to ensure there is no separation.

You’re done! It will make about 16oz, and look like some sort of witch’s brew. I love the way this stuff smells and feels. I also kinda like that it’s green! Be sure to wipe out the inside of your pot quickly, as beeswax is a pain to clean once it’s hardened. This is a great go-to for all of your bumps and bruises!

Every small, non-emergency owie, every time. 😉
