Is a high level of stress and depression becoming our “new normal”?

According to a survey by The American Psychological Association, two-thirds of Americans said they were likely to seek help for stress.

54% of Americans said they are concerned about the level of stress in their everyday lives and 54% of workers expressed concern about health problems caused by stress.

Job pressure, money, health, relationships, poor nutrition, media overload, and sleep deprivation are the top reported causes of stress in the US.

Some of the typical signs of stress are Fatigue, Headaches, Upset Stomach, Muscle Tension, Changes in appetite, Insomnia, Teeth grinding, Changes in Sex drive, Feeling dizzy, Irritability, Anger, Feeling nervous, Lack of energy, and Crying.

When stress occurs, there is an immediate response in the body, mind, and/or emotions.  Our instincts send a “red-alert”, an “alarm”  which goes off inside automatically.  If the stress continues, a pattern of adapting to this new level of stress is then established. The higher stress level becomes the “new normal”, and if this pattern continues too long, leads to Exhaustion.

This Red Alert—Adaption—Exhaustion—Stress Pattern can sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly, lead to serious Chronic Pain, and Illness

With any stress, but particularly with stress that has gone on for a long time, it’s quite typical to also find depression and/or anxiety co-existing as well.

According to statistics from The World Health Organization, an estimated 121 million people world-wide suffer from depression.
The National Institute of Mental Health findings show that Depression often co-occurs with anxiety disorders and substance abuse.

Approximately six million American men and nearly twice as many women are affected by depression.

The rate of antidepressant use has skyrocketed nearly 400% in the United States since the late 1980’s. More than 1 in 10 in the U.S. take antidepressants.

“There is evidence that the rates of depression doubled from the late 1990s to the late 2000s,” according to Dr. Charles Raison, associate professor of psychiatry at the University of Arizona School of Medicine.

The mind, body, and emotions are completely inter-connected.  Dealing with a problem on the physical level alone does not always solve the entire problem.
Many new clients that first seek my help, are typically suffering from severe stress, depression, anxiety, and pain, and have tried to alleviate their suffering by taking anti-depressants and/or pain medications. Quite often, however, they found that medication did not in fact eliminate their symptoms nor did it solve the root cause of their problem.  It was often at best, only a temporary band-aid.

I empathize greatly with those experiencing stress, pain, depression and anxiety.  Much of my professional work for the past 29 years actually came about as a result of needing to seek solutions other than drug therapy to solve these very problems in my own life many years ago, and to find a way back to get my health back on track.  Over these many years, I have studied, practiced, been trained in, and developed numerous tools that I now teach my clients and students to help them get their lives back.

The need for non-harmful alternatives, new tools for dealing with stress and pain are available to us now, and was the inspiration and motivation for creating my “Break Free of Stress Patterns with the Pain Free Living Program”.  This transformational program has helped numerous people get their energy and lives back, even those who had “tried everything” with little to no success.  Utilizing powerful mind/body techniques along with and my specialty, Biofield Energy-Healing, many of my past clients have reported the complete and total elimination of their Chronic Pain, Depression, Anxiety, Fibromyalgia, and more.

From my perspective and the view shared by many now in the fields of complimentary and integrative medicine, “New, Non-Invasive Medicine” can become the “New Normal” rather than simply accepting high-levels of stress and pain as an inevitable fact of life.
