There are numerous health conditions, but few can be as embarrassing as diarrhea. Can you imagine being forced to go to work or school while suffering from this problem? There is a possibility that you’ll have a terrible accident and that will undoubtedly turn into a major disaster. Diarrhea is unfortunately something that everyone will deal with at some point or another. Just remember that this is something that you can easily remedy. As long as you take the right precautions, you’ll be able to overcome it without too much trouble.

Why Does Diarrhea Occur?

It is almost certain that you’ve experienced diarrhea at some point or another. This condition is usually not dangerous, but it can be downright annoying and embarrassing. Many consumers will experience diarrhea at least once or twice a year. It can last a few hours or it may drag out for two to three days. When diarrhea occurs, you will begin to experience loose and watery bowel movements. Diarrhea can be caused by a variety of things, including diabetes, food allergies, alcohol abuse, and even running.

Below you will discover the overall best natural remedies for diarrhea.

1. Yogurt

A lot of people eat a cup of yogurt each and every morning. This is definitely a good idea, since yogurt is very good for you. At the same time, this specific food can provide you with a decent quantity of helpful bacteria. In particular, the Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus Acidophilus bacteria are very important for putting a stop to that annoying diarrhea. This bacteria will help to eliminate the bad bacteria that is probably causing the diarrhea in the first place.

Eating just two bowls of yogurt each day will make a big difference. For even more noticeable results, you should consider throwing a banana into your diet.

2. Ginger

As you’ve likely already heard, ginger can deliver numerous health benefits and it is effective for combating numerous health problems. In fact, ginger has been used to treat food poisoning for an extensive period of time. This food is widely believed to be helpful for eradicating cramps and abdominal pain. It is possible to make ginger tea, but you may also want to cut it up into tiny pieces and add it to honey. The choice is yours, but you can guarantee that the ginger will help you overcome your diarrhea.

3. Chamomile Tea

If you’re suffering from diarrhea and stomach pains, you owe it to yourself to give chamomile a try. Chamomile tea has many health benefits and is known to possess powerful antispasmodic properties. This means that it’ll be able to help you overcome the terrible stomach pains that are often linked to diarrhea. Finally, this specific tea can also help to diminish intestinal inflammation. Just drink chamomile tea on a regular basis and there is a good chance that you’ll be able to avoid getting diarrhea so frequently.

4. White Rice

White rice is another good remedy for diarrhea. It is very helpful for diarrhea, because it is one of the easiest foods to digest. Plus, it can help to add bulk to your stools. In return, this will help you pass the waste much easier. You should begin by eating small quantities of white rice. As the condition begins to improve, you can progressively increase the amount of rice that you consume. Be sure to avoid any spices or sauces.

5. Adequate Fluid Intake

One of the most common complications of diarrhea is dehydration. Every time you have a loose bowel movement, you are losing precious nutrients and electrolytes. To make matters worse, diarrhea is often accompanied by vomiting, which only puts you at a higher risk of dehydration. As soon as you begin to experience diarrhea, you should increase your fluid intake. This does not mean that you should drink a gallon of water, but only a few ounces at one time.

While it is highly recommended to increase your fluid intake, you should avoid caffeinated and carbonated drinks, which will only enhance the symptoms. Milk should also be avoided.

6. Cottage Cheese

Cottage cheese digests very easily, making it the perfect food for times when you are experiencing diarrhea. This is a high protein, low calorie food that contains essential nutrients, including iron, vitamin A, folate and calcium. Cottage cheese contains live microorganisms that are key to a healthy gut environment. Antibiotics and stomach viruses are highly known for destroying the good bacteria that live in the intestinal tract. The microorganisms in cheese can protect the bacteria and help maintain normal functioning of the gastrointestinal system.

7. Fruits And Vegetables

Fruits and vegetables have long been known to have tons of beneficial properties. They can provide the body with water, electrolytes, and fiber, which can come in extremely handy when it comes to dealing with diarrhea. If you are not big on raw fruits and vegetables, you always have the option of making a smoothie to make the consuming process a little more enjoyable. With that being said, make sure that you are always monitoring your symptoms, because some individuals experience bad reactions when consuming too much sugar.

8. Getting The Proper Amount of Rest

If you are experiencing extreme cases of diarrhea there is a good chance that you are feeling run down and dehydrated. This is why it is imperative that you take the time to rest and let your body heal. Always try to avoid too much strenuous activity or exercise when you are experiencing extreme symptoms of diarrhea. Not only will getting eight hours of sleep help your body recover, but it will also go a long way with reducing stress.

9. Peppermint Oil

Peppermint oil is a type of essential oil that has been used for ages in conjunction with traditional healing methods and techniques. However, recent studies have shown that peppermint oil actually has the properties to reduce the inflammation in the bowels, while soothing the digestive tract. Along with this, the menthol and monoterpene ingredients can help eliminate cramping and stomach pains, which is extremely helpful when dealing with diarrhea symptoms.

Be Careful When Choosing Anti-Diarrheal Drugs

If you are commonly plagued by diarrhea, there is a good chance that you have probably tried tons of different anti-diarrheal drugs, or at least considered using them. What you may not know is that the drugs can actually be more harmful than helpful. It is true that they will reduce the number of times that you need to visit the bathroom, but they can just mask your body’s natural ability to heal itself against this condition. Most people don’t realize it, but diarrhea is just the body’s natural reaction in dealing with disruptions in the digestive tract. Large quantities of bacterium and other parasites can be dispatched quickly through the intestines.

Not for those of us with ibs-d. Sure, these things help, but our issue is not our body trying to get rid of toxins but our body being over-reactive to stimuli. I take 3 immodium per day just to be able to get out the door.

Ask your doctor for a trial with Alosetron. I suffered from IBS-D for 40+ years and from the first dose on, this medication has been life-changing!! Good luck!

I was one of the first to get on lotronex. It worked great, then was withdrawn from the market. I got back on it when it was re-approved and stayed on it for years until it stopped working. I am now on viberzi which works–still have issues but in a different way. Thanks for the tip. I’ve had ibs-d since kindergarten and am now 60 years old. I’m a stick in the mud because I never want to go out and do anything, even if it doesn’t involve eating, unless I know where every bathroom is. I would so love to travel!

I’m not sure if you have heard of a Starch Based diet but Dr. Mcdougal has helped countless people with digestive issues with a high card low fat diet. It’s cheap and would probably lower your food bill. I’d give it two weeks if I had IBS

I, too, have had IBS-D for over 40 years. Became bowel incontinent from a lower back problem about 15 years ago. Have had to take 20+ Imodium before going to work.I hate chemical medications but will look into Alosetron. Thank you, Susan.

My wife is from Africa. Here’s her Granny’s cure for the squirts and this works like a charm, every time! 1/3 glass dry, red wine. Add 1 heaping tbs flour and mix well. This tastes terrible, so shoot it straight down. Wait 20 minutes, then go ahead and jog or play basketball because the diarrhea is gone.

My 13 year diarrhea was caused by retaking my childhood vaccines to get into nursing school. After trying over 50 herbs and trying to limit deficiency damage by taking optimal and more than optimal doses of all the known nutrients, I finally found relief with MSM and TMG. But I have to continue taking these, or the diarrhea comes back within 2 days.

Our body is intelligently put together. One way our body purges infectious matter is via diarrhea. It can be beneficial to a point, but can also result in dehydration and the dangerous loss of electrolytes that can be life threatening. I do not remember ever being taught about natural cures/remedies, but apparently I witnessed certain things that were simply imbedded in my memory without much conscious awareness. I grew up around a lot of guava trees in Asia. To treat diarrhea, boil some guava leaves and drink the broth. It stops diarrhea dead on its track. I have a guava tree growing here now in California because I know the wonders it does. I defy Big Pharma the best way I can.
