Whatever you expect, you will get

We all have thoughts coming into and out of our minds all day, every day. Some are positive, some not so positive. However, it really is up to us to decide which thoughts to pursue.

According to the teachings of Abraham, as translated by inspirational speaker and author Esther Hicks, we are all vibrational beings. We all operate within the Law of Attraction (LOA) that is, you attract whatever it is you are choosing to give your attention to.

We learn that what we continually have thoughts about – what we give our attention to – eventually become our beliefs. And when we consistently hold a belief about something – whether it is about our body, our health, our partner, our experiences – we then develop expectations about them. And when you expect something, it is a virtual guarantee that it is what you will continue to receive.

It bears repeating: whatever you expect, is what you will get.

In a video excerpt from an Abraham-Hicks workshop, Hicks discusses this concept in depth. Watch it below:

“Thoughts that you think, they are just thoughts,” she says. “Thoughts that you keep thinking become chronically thought – easier to think – those are what beliefs are. Those represent your expectation, and once you’ve reached expectation – and it’s easy to do – you’ve offered a vibration, and you did it long enough that it started showing up in your experience and now you’ve got proof, so now you don’t just believe it, you know it. You expect it. You expect it to be the way that it is.”

This is critical because it shines a bright light on the fact that whatever we choose to think about, if we choose it often enough, becomes evident in our lives.

In other words, our thoughts turn to beliefs turn to expectations turn to experience turns to fact. Or what we believe to be fact.

“The word expectation sounds like something out of your control has created it and now it is just something that has to be because that’s just the way it is. But nothing it just the way it is,” explains Hicks.

Everything is the way it is because it came from someone’s expectation that it would be that way.

Many things you expect can in fact be quite marvelous, because it works both ways. You can create positive truths and circumstances based on positive expectations, or you can do the opposite, it truly is a choice.

Hicks advises that we pick and choose among the things we expect in our lives, and to deliberately choose to expect the things the way we want them to be.

While some who are unfamiliar with the teachings of Abraham-Hicks and the principles of LOA might find this to be delusional thinking, it is only because they have not been introduced to these concepts.

Facing reality is, according to Abraham-Hicks, not necessary at all. We get to choose the thoughts we want to focus on, discard the rest, and reap the benefits. This is not pie-in-the-sky – it is a state of mind that anyone can access.

We all know people who have been in challenging circumstances, and we have seen amazing differences in outcomes based upon their personalities. Have you noticed that the ones who moan and complain and focus on the worst tend to stay stuck? Have you noticed that the people who refuse to complain and instead believe the best tend to recover and rebound?

It doesn’t even mean they necessarily follow the teachings of Abraham-Hicks, because these concepts are universal. One doesn’t have to know a thing about LOA, Abraham, Esther Hicks, or any of the many authors who teach these concepts to reap the benefits of their teachings.

When you find yourself feeling mired in thoughts of negativity, consider that you are choosing them. You can choose otherwise. We all have the ability to gently nudge our thoughts into a more positive direction. This does not mean putting on a fake smile and pretending, but on the other hand, sometimes this can actually work!

Regardless, the bottom line is that we can create positive or negative circumstances based on our expectations.

So expect the best, and watch what happens!
