A lot of women cannot wait for that ‘OMG’ moment when the pregnancy test results say ´Darling, you are about to become a new mother’.

But then, those moments don’t last for too long; replaced of course by the emotional and physical changes and the many discomforts that leave a lot of women tired and frustrated during pregnancy.

Well, the truth is that pregnancy is not designed to be a fun ride. There are a lot of changes that your body has to go through; your hormonal levels would change, your emotions would be here and there and your body would definitely not remain in its pre-pregnancy state.

Nonetheless, it’s not a hopeless situation as there are lots of remedies that you can use to reduce these discomforts. Some common discomforts during pregnancy are-:

  • Backaches-: As your weight increases during pregnancy, your spine is pulled forward and your center of gravity is shifted. This is what leads to backaches most of the time but in some cases; a sudden chronic back ache might be a sign of pre-term labor So, it is important to check with your doctor to be sure of what you are dealing with. Other causes of backache during pregnancy are muscle separation, weight gain, hormonal changes and stress.

Remedies-: The first remedy for backache in pregnancy is practicing good posture. You should always stand tall, straight and tuck your buttocks under you when sitting.

You should also avoid lifting heavy objects but if you have to, you should avoid bending over your waist and lifting with your back. Instead, you should bend your knees and lift items with your legs.

Ditching your 6-inch heel stilettos is also very important at this point as they may aggravate the backaches. Other things that can help are back massages, warm bath soaks and applying heat pads, wearing maternity support belts and doing prenatal exercises such as prenatal yoga can also help to reduce the pain.

  • Morning Sicknesses-: Morning sickness is caused when the blood of an expectant mother becomes too acidic suddenly especially during the early stages of pregnancy.During pregnancy, the fetus lives inside the placenta and gets its nutrients from the umbilical cord and when the nutrients are burnt, it creates some acidic wastes which is discharged into the placenta. These high levels of acidic discharge must be neutralized to keep the fetus safe and this causes the mother to lose some of her alkaline minerals to the placenta.

Remedies-: To reduce morning sickness, pregnant women should drink at least 2 glasses of alkaline water daily.

You can alkalize your water at home using ingredients like baking soda and lemons but to be on the safer side, you should consider buying a water ionizer machine which you can see on amazon here which can make both acidic and alkaline water.

  • Constipation-: Pregnant women also have to deal with constipation which occurs as a result of changes in the hormones which slows down the process of digestion and displacement of the digestive organs by the growing uterus. Bad eating habits, stress, lack of calcium or iron may also cause constipation in pregnant women.

Remedies-: To tackle constipation, you should drink at least 8 glasses of water (8-ounces) every day. You should also try to walk for at least 30 minutes daily. Instead of eating heavy meals at once, you should go for small meals three times daily. Eating foods that are rich in fiber like fruits and vegetables would also help with constipation.
