You can feel it in the air – summer is almost here.  The days are getting longer and the temperatures outside are warming as spring has sprung and summer is now fast approaching.  With the warmer days it is time to get rid of those long pants and enjoy the cool, refreshing feeling of shorts and skirts on the warmest of days.  However, for many, this time of year can be a stressful one.  Not everyone has perfect legs and it can be embarrassing to display your legs if they aren’t looking their best.

However, all hope is not lost and you using a few safe and non-invasive treatments and methods, you can easily get your legs looking their best so you can proudly show them off on the warm summer days ahead.

Common Summer Leg Issues

For many women, there are two main causes for leg embarrassment, outside of a simple lack of color after a long winter, that is.  They are unshapely legs and varicose veins.  Luckily, there are several solutions to fix these problems so you can get great looking legs in time for summer.

Prepare Your Legs for the Summer

If you are frustrated that no matter what you do you still have trouble getting healthy legs that are shapely and free of varicose veins, all hope is not lost.  There are many natural methods that are completely non-invasive to help you get your legs back into the best shape they can be in time for summer.

Exercise

First, to get your legs back to looking their best, you need to exercise.  It is important, however, to exercise correctly, especially if you also want to get rid of those pesky varicose veins naturally.  Some exercises put added pressure on the veins on your legs which can actually make your varicose vein problem worse instead of better.  Short impacts on your legs can block blood flow and amplify the pressure on your veins.  When choosing exercises, be sure they reduce the impact on your legs while still exercising the muscles to return them to their shapely form while also reducing the appearance of varicose veins.

Wear Good Shoes

Believe it or not, the shoes you choose to wear can make all the difference.  While you may like how high-heels make you look, they can actually put added pressure on your legs causing your varicose vein problem to worsen.  When shopping for shoes, look for a pair that have low heals especially if you are on your feet a lot during the day.

Consider Your Clothes

While you are at it, avoid wearing underwear or pants that are tight around the waist, groin and hips.  These types of clothing restrict blood flow and can increase your risk of developing varicose veins or make your existing veins worse.

Healthy Body Weight

Excess weight is one of the biggest risk factors to developing varicose veins.  If you want to be sure you don’t develop varicose veins or make your existing problem worse, do your best to maintain a healthy body weight.

Drink Water

While this may sound gross, it holds true.  The more hydrated you are, the softer your stools will be.  This will make it easier for you to pass stools allowing you to reduce the pressure on your legs reducing varicose veins as well as hemorrhoids.

Compression Stockings

While this is an older solution, it is still one of the best around.  Consider purchasing a good quality set of compression stockings to wear to help reduce or even eliminate any spider veins or varicose veins.

Elevate Your Feet

If possible, try elevated the foot of your bed when you sleep at night.  If you can’t raise your bed, try putting pillows or blankets at the foot of your bed to keep your feet in an elevated position while you sleep.  This will reduce pressure on your legs to help reduce your varicose vein problems.

Natural Supplements

Vitamins and other natural supplements can your body maintain a proper chemistry as well as help treat and remove those pesky spider veins and varicose veins.  Before you take any type of supplements, it is a good idea to talk to your doctor to be sure they are safe.

Try Cold Showers

The cold water in your next shower is one of the best natural remedies for varicose veins.  It works by constricting the superficial veins through direct stimulation of the muscle lining in your legs.  This is one of the easiest treatments for varicose veins to do in your own home although it isn’t always the most pleasant.  If you aren’t used to cold showers, try gradually reducing the water temperature with each shower until you are used it.

Surgical Options

Sometimes, these treatments aren’t enough to really get your legs looking their best.  In some cases, you may have to consider more invasive surgery procedures.  Most of the procedures today are relatively painless and can often be done in an out patient procedure from a clinic and won’t even require a stay in the hospital.  The most common surgical procedures are:

– Ambulatory Phlebectomy
– Endovenous Laser Ablation
– Sclerotherapy
– Ligation and Stripping

Of these treatments, only litigation and stripping can be considered invasive, but it is still nowhere near as painful and invasive as it used to be.

In many cases, using a combination of the natural and non-invasive treatments along with some of the more invasive surgical options may be your best choice for getting your legs ready to show off in your favorite shorts, skirts or swimsuits this summer.  Talk with your doctor to determine what the best options are for you to get the best looking legs that will impress men and women everywhere as you walk down the street.
