Kratom, Other Herbs, and Minerals for Anxiety

Anxiety — A Modern Handicap

The pressures and speed of modern life, multiplied by its uncertainties, are overwhelming. We are anxious, many of us…and we are looking for relief.

Thanks to computers and multiple electronic communication devices, each of us handle more information input in a day than our ancestors dealt with in weeks. We need to make many decisions quickly and accurately and, frankly, some of us are pushed to the breaking point.

Many, having tried extremely addictive pharmaceutical remedies, are turning back to herbs to soothe our irritated nerves. Kratom is one of the major players in our quest to put anxiety to rest, but it is not the only herb that is reported to help.

Beyond the herbal management of our stress response to anxious thoughts, we need to learn techniques to control those thoughts. And we must believe that “everything is going to be all right.” This is easier said than done.

Medications that Actually Are Making the Underlying Problem Worse

Diseases that Cause Anxiety: Diseases that cause chronic pain and disability are major sources of anxiety. With MDs treating the symptoms, having no hope of a cure, patients may feel their life is out of their control. New symptoms appear without warning, cognitive functions suffer, and mood swings make it difficult to respond with calm certainty that our decision will be the right one — all contribute to our sense of anxiety.

Multiple medications also contribute to our anxious sense of feeling out of control.

Coffee May Be Heightening Anxiety:

The coffee habit is a two-edged sword. We crave the instant alertness it produces, but it also sets us up for an anxious response to unexpected developments.

One of the problems I (and I suspect many others) had with coffee is the occasional anxiety I felt when I had too much or too strong a cup. Could coffee be driving your anxiety levels higher?

Ironically, the kratom tree is related to the coffee tree, but kratom contains no caffeine. It has other alkaloids that are stimulants of our adrenal glands. Kratom also has serotonergic alkaloids which most people associate with happiness and improved mood. And finally, kratom helps with chronic pain, which also alleviates a cause of our anxiety.

If anxiety is a problem for you, it may help to know that many people are getting the alertness they desire from kratom tea — without the jitters.

Lack of Physical Exercise Contributes to Anxiety

Daily aerobic exercise is a great stress-reliever. Due to the patient’s illness, exercise often falls by the wayside, when the endorphins it creates could be very helpful in relieving not only pain, but also anxiety. Opioid medications and extreme pain often combine to leave chronic pain patients bed-bound. Agoraphobia and Generalized Anxiety Disorder may contribute to their desire to avoid venturing out to talk a walk. The use of kratom is helping many with chronic pain to overcome their reluctance to add moderate exercise back into their daily routine.

Many Forces in our Lives Are Out of our Control

Let’s face the fact that anxiety is not helping us deal with the stresses that set it off. We know we need to bring anxiety under control if we are to respond to the stresses of daily life more effectively. The question is: “How?

Anxiety appears to be caused by several factors: our thoughts and mental habit patterns; the chemical/hormonal response our body produces to stress; and the increasingly fast pace and the dangers of modern life.

Since we can’t control every external event, let’s work on controlling the way we respond to them. The key to this puzzle is controlling our habitual self-talk and beliefs.

We have an important choice to make that will determine much of how the outside world treats us: Do we expect good things to happen? Or, do we habitually fear a bad outcome?

We might as well expect — in complete faith — that good things will happen, because this is very relaxing and readies us to respond in a positive manner.

Philosophers and modern psychologists agree that worrying about things that haven’t happened is futile. As the saying goes, “99% of what we fear will happen, never does.

The good news is that the habit of worrying can be unlearned. It will take time and persistent effort — and many people find that kratom can help in this process.

“Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.” Helen Keller

Learn to trust in yourself. If you believe in a Higher Power, then trust in that, as well.

Learn to listen to your intuition. It will help you make quicker and more accurate decisions.

Do all you can to make things go as you would like them to — and then believe that things will work out for the best in the long run. It usually does, although events may play out in unforeseen ways!

Mineral Deficiencies Are a Factor Causing Anxiety

Naturopathic Doctors teach us that our body needs 90 specific nutrients in order to function properly. With deficiencies of certain ones and their co-factors, eventually we begin to experience symptoms such as anxiety.

This is where modern allopathic medicine fails us. Your typical MD is taught nothing about human nutritional needs in medical school.  Nutritional solutions to your problems are not what he (or she) is selling.

Your medical doctor or psychiatrist is selling a quick fix that will stop your symptoms temporarily, but may make them worse over time. As many who suffer anxiety have found, prescription benzodiazepines are a tough addiction to break.

The Importance of Minerals, esp. Magnesium and Calcium:

Here are some symptoms of Magnesium deficiency: Anxiety, tremors, fatigue, poor memory, and confusion.

The typical modern diet is seriously deficient in these and other minerals that are essential in allowing us to calmly deal with stress. Without them — and their calming influence at the cellular level — we are easy prey for unexpected stresses.

A science-based, clinically-verified approach to supplementation is vital for our healthy response to stress and anxiety. The mainstream medical profession totally miss recognizing the critical need for complete vitamin/mineral/essential fatty acid supplementation. Instead, they offer us prescription drugs to cover up the symptoms.

Herbs Can Also Help: Kratom, Holy Basil, tulsi, lemonbalm, valerian, motherwort, kanna, ashwagandha are a few that are helping anxiety sufferers interviewed for this article.

What Kratom Can Do (Testimonial by Shelly Paulson)

My Year with Kratom
I was born with a disease called adrenal hyperplasia. Since birth, I have had to take corticosteroids (I am now 48). As a result of the many medications I’ve had to take, I developed life-debilitating muscle atrophy (in both my upper and lower legs) about seven years ago. The pain has been horrendous, even with being on several prescribed opiates, anti-inflammatories, and various other pain-relieving medications.
As well as muscle atrophy, I have agoraphobia. I suffer from extreme anxiety, panic disorder, and depression. My doctors do not know if this is due to the corticosteroid use or not. Suffice it to say, I have been hospitalized several times due to suicidal thinking.

Enter kratom, the wonderful herb that is saving my life.
I have been taking kratom for about one year, and my life has changed drastically. I have cut five medications out of my life, which includes different types of painkillers, along with anti-anxiety and anti-depressive medications.
Without this wonderful herb, I would still be barely able to walk. I no longer need the assistance of a walker. Today I use a cane and my service dog to help with my balance.
My anxiety, panic, and depression has also gotten much better. Instead of being completely homebound, I am now able to get outside with the help of my fiancé. Before, I would cower in my bedroom with the walls closing in on me.
Kratom has changed my life for the better. To ban this amazing herb would put me right back where I came from. I do not want to regress to how I was living before kratom. I like my life now.”

Shelly’s is an extreme case, but not unusual. The majority of those surveyed for this article pointed out that kratom and other herbs helped them phase out anti-anxiety medications, such as Xanax, with ease.

For a comprehensive regimen to control anxiety, Nutrition, Exercise, Herbs, and implementing positive thought habits can all help to restore a healthy stress response.

I have watched the same mistakes being made time after time in our country and I hope to point these errors out and hopefully help to change a few of them. We have, as a society, turned too much control over our lives and diet to self-proclaimed experts, who have an agenda that is not in our best interest. To regain our health and freedom, we need to give these "experts" the boot and become knowledgeable about the crucial details of our own lives.
