Measles, or rubeola, is caused by a virus. Homeopathic medicine has a long history of treating acute and chronic disease. Measles outbreaks can be treated with homeopathic remedies. Use of a homeopathic remedy for measles can reduce pain and speed recover. Homeopathy has a long history of use in epidemic disease and was used successfully in the flu epidemic of 1918.

To treat a child using homeopathy for measles, low potency remedies are usually prescribed, such as 6C or 30C. They can be given once or twice or day until the child is healed. In acute situations, the remedies can be repeated a few times a day.

Homeopathic remedies for measles

Aconite:

Aconite is a good remedy for the beginning stages of measles. The child may have dry skin, restlessness, and be worse at night with feelings of anxiety, irritability and fear of death. The child needing Aconite is thirsty and has a dry and sometimes violent cough. They can feel that there is something under their eyelids and they are sensitive to light.

Belladonna

Another good remedy used at the early stages of measles is Belladonna The child maybe nervous, and alternate between being restless and feeling depressed .The child needing Belladonna will have a rapid pulse, dilated pupils and perspiration.

Bryonia

Bryonis is used as a homeopathic remedy for measles when the child is aggravated by any movement or motion. They have a fever, dry mouth, and they are intensely thirsty. They may have a headache that is worse whenever they move. Even the cough is painful for them.

Ipecac

Ipecac is useful as a homeopathic remedy for measles when the child feel nausea but does not vomit. The child may feel irritable but not be able to explain what they want.

Pulsatilla

Pulsatilla is the homeopathic remedy for measles when the skin eruption has calmed down from light red to a pale color, and the skin begins to look like marble. Nasal mucus may be abundant and the cough can be a wet cough during the daytime but dry at night. The mouth is also dry and the child has no thirst. The child needing this remedy is no longer irritable or restless, but now feels calm and wants some fresh air.

Gelsemium

Gelsemium is the homeopathic remedy for measles when the disease becomes  a more complicated condition. If the child feels very groggy and thirstless and has a weak pulse, Gelsemium is the remedy of choice.

Nux vomica

Another homeopathic remedy for measles if the condition worsens is Nux vomica. Nux is used when the child is almost in a state of mild delirium. They can be very agitated, leaping from their bed and changing positions constantly, never comfortable. The tough can be white with a red trip and they are very thirsty. They can have diarrhea and perspire from their whole bodies.

Arsenicum

Arsenicum is another homeopathic remedy for measles to consider if they child is very lethargic, very ill, as well as very restless. They may be thirsty but only take small sips of water when offered. The child needing Arsenicum feels worse with they are warm.

Other homeopathic remedies are useful to treat complications from measles however, consulting with a trained homeopath is recommended. Always seek medical help for a child with fever and be sure to stay in contact with your health provider when symptoms change.
