They are not only delicious and convenient, they provide a wide range of health benefits that put them on the top of my grocery list. Enzymes: Not Just for Digestion. Pineapple fruit enzymes like bromelain are proven to be an effective way to assist in treating Sinusitis (sinus inflammation) and inflammation pain. Papain and Bromelain are proteolytic enzymes because they break up biological products like thick mucus.

A medium-sized banana about 7 or 8 inches long provides about 105-120 calories, about 20% of your daily value (DV) of vitamin B6, 18% DV vitamin C, 13% DV of potassium, 12% DV of dietary fiber and 9% DV manganese. Bananas contain many phytonutrients and antioxidants that contribute to the health benefits listed above.

Pineapples are an excellent source of manganese as well as vitamins C, B1 and B6. Pineapples are also good sources of copper and dietary fiber. Pineapples have anti-inflammatory properties and they help with digestion. They contain an enzyme, bromelain, which helps break down protein.

Enzyme Banana Pineapple Smoothie Recipe

INGREDIENTS

1 cup fresh squeezed orange juice
1 cup fresh chopped pineapple
1 frozen banana (if raw, use more ice)
1/2 cup fresh papaya or kiwi
1.5 cups coconut water ice (tap can be used too)
2 Tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp agave syrup
1 tsp cayenne
optional: fresh grated ginger

DIRECTIONS

Pour Orange juice and lemon juice into blender.
Add in frozen banana chunks. Add in 3/4 of total ice.
Add in half the total amount of fresh fruit you will be adding.
Blend on high until blender begins to run smoothly.
Add in the agave, remaining fruit, remaining ice and cayenne. (and ginger if using it)
Blend on low until smoothie is done.
