Between stress and poor eating habits, it is no wonder that digestive disorders of all kinds are so common in modern society. This is probably why there is such an interest in restoring the digestive tract to its natural health and balance. This is the purpose of the plan for Gut Gastronomy, which provides recipes that repair the gastrointestinal tract through natural, healthy food choices.

This plan emphasizes high-quality meats, eggs, fish, fermented foods, nuts, organic produce and avocados to help restore the digestive system to a proper balance. Several recipes to exemplify this system are given below.

Almond and Coconut Pancakes with Spiced Plums

This recipe is great for gut health because it is grain-free and rich in important vitamins and minerals such as magnesium.

  • 12 ripe plums
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice

Ingredients for the Pancakes:

  • 1 ounce coconut flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 4 eggs
  • 7 ounces coconut milk

Sift ground almonds, coconut flour, cinnamon and baking powder together. In a separate bowl, combine eggs with coconut milk, honey, vanilla extract together, then add to the dry ingredients. Cook in skillet like regular pancakes, then serve with warm plums and plum sauce.

Koftas with Tomatoes and Onions

Dash of lemon juice

Ingredients for Tomato and Onion Dish:

  • 4 tomatoes
  • 1 chopped red onion
  • 4 chopped mint sprigs
  • 2 chopped coriander sprigs
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Directions

For kofta, mix meat, vegetables, herbs and spices together, then divide the mixture into 8 sections and roll each into a sausage shape. Thread each one onto a bamboo skewer. To make tomato and onion dish, mix all ingredients together and set aside. Heat a griddle pan over medium heat, brush the koftas with ghee and cook them for 3-4 minutes before turning and cooking another 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat and serve over the top of the tomatoes and onions, adding a dash of lemon juice just before serving.

These are just two recipes which follow this plan to restore the health of the gut; fermented foods like sauerkraut and kimchi are also recommended to help nourish and promote the growth of healthy bacteria, but foods like grains, dairy products and some vegetables are eliminated to help rejuvenate the gastrointestinal system and restore good digestion. And because it is so important, good digestion can go a long way to improve a person’s overall bodily health.
