How to Get Rid of Tonsil Stones Naturally

Tonsil stones are hard, white deposits that form in the crevices of the tonsils which are the two lymph nodes located on each side of the back of the throat responsible for filtering out bacteria and viruses. Due, usually, to bacteria buildup, tonsil stones usually manifest as a combination of throat pain and bad breath. They are typically treated by medicines (most of which are very specialized and therefore quite expensive), or in extreme cases, by removing the tonsils. Before trying these dangerous and invasive treatments, try the following natural ways to eliminate tonsil stones:

Garlic

This may seem counterintuitive as garlic will most likely exacerbate the bad breath caused by tonsil stones, however chewing on garlic a few times a day can actually help remove tonsil stones and by brushing your teeth afterwards, you can eliminate the bad breath caused by it. Chewing on garlic kills bacteria, eventually breaking down tonsil stones.

Apple cider vinegar

The acidic nature of apple cider vinegar breaks down tonsil stones. In order to use this remedy, mix apple cider vinegar with water and gargle once or twice a day until the stones disappear.

Apples

Apples are mildly acidic, meaning that they help break down tonsil stones in a similar way as apple cider vinegar. In addition, when you chew apples, their tough skin helps “scrub” tonsil stones away.

Peppermint Oil

Peppermint oil improves circulation and digestion, which prevents the buildup of bacteria and other materials that cause tonsil stones. Peppermint oil also fights bacterial infections, which helps break down tonsil stones. It also has the benefit of improving the bad breath that often accompanies tonsil stones.

Salt water

Gargling with salt water is a great way to eliminate the pain associated with tonsil stones. Salt water also works to destroy tonsil stones and hinder its forming process. You should gargle with salt water every night before bed.

Stay hydrated

Drinking a lot of water helps wash away any existing tonsil stones and keeps your mouth hydrated. This prevents further stones from forming. It also helps prevent disease, making it less likely for the bacteria responsable for tonsil stones to form.

Have a lollipop

This is probably the most enjoyable way of getting rid of tonsil stones. When sucking on a lollipop, make sure that you apply some pressure to the back of your throat (where your tonsils are located). This will help physically dislodge the tonsil stones.

Onions

Onions are a natural antibacterial, meaning that they not only help prevent infection, they also eliminate tonsil stones. In order to properly treat your tonsil stones, chew on raw onions for two or three minuets a day.
