Free Speech Under Attack

Freedom of speech is constantly under attack in the west, normally disguised as something positive that will make society better and safer. The most recent attack is a proposed by law in Saskatoon Canada. The by law proposes to fine anyone for the crime of rumour-mongering, name-calling, taunting, mocking and ostracizing. It is being justified as a measure to stop bullying, anyone who engages in such an act could be fined up to $2500.00 and it applies to people from the age of 12 and up!

This reminds me of a quote by the dear departed George Carlin; “Political correctness is fascism pretending to be manners”

Here Are Some Recent Examples Of Assaults On Freedom Of Speech/ Freedom Of Expression

Does anyone remember or has heard about the ‘ban bossy‘ campaign? I will give you a quick rundown, a whole lot of  celebrity’s said that calling a women/girls bossy will prevent them from being leaders so they just want to get rid of the word ‘bossy’. Ironically the campaign was bossy and anyone who gets prevented from being a leader because they were called something they didn’t like was never really leadership material in the first place. Fortunately the campaign was not well received.

A man by the name of Gregory Elliot was almost sentenced to prison for the crime of sending some tweets on twitter. What he was guilty of was disagreeing with some women on twitter, they claim that the tweets allegedly made them feel unsafe. Even though he did not go to prison he was dragged through the courts for 3 years at great expense and was not allowed to use the internet while he was on trial. He earns his living online.

The Benham brothers lose show after anti gay remarks, I personally dislike intolerant religious people but I would never justify silencing/censoring people merely for speaking their opinions. Even their bank cut deals with them!

Brendon Eich  (Mozilla CEO)was forced to resign after causing a lot of controversy over him donating money to an organization that opposes gay marriage. I personally think people should be allowed to marry who ever they want but people should also be able speak up against that if they choose to do so.

There is the story of the christian bakers who did not want to bake a cake for a gay wedding, was there only one bakery in Oregon? Why didn’t the couple just go somewhere else? Was it morally right for the bakers to refuse someone business based on their sexuality? I don’t think so but it is not right to force someone to do business with someone. Two wrongs don’t make a right.

The radical left seems determined to spare everyone’s hurt feelings at the expense of freedom of expression. With PC culture your expected to not say something in just in case someone may be offended forcing people to censor themselves. How can hate speech and freedom of speech co exist?

And more importantly certain youtube accounts, one that springs to mind is Storm clouds gathering are having their channels demonitized. What I mean by that is their videos will randomly and without warning get their ads blocked, the videos will still stay up but they will no longer get paid for views. This channel talks about U.S involvement in wars abroad, politics etc. They basically go against the official narrative.

Although there are some individuals who are free from the tyrannical grasp of the hard left these include radical Islamists – they can call upon the death of all gays and infidels and for some reason that is never considered hate speech.

Feminists –  started a hashtag on twitter that then got trending, the hashtag was #killallmen apparently that was not considered hate speech either.

So is this how George Orwell’s 1984 is going to be implemented? By overly sensitive individuals with hurt feelings?

Do you know of any more examples of assaults on freedom of speech? Let me know in the comments section below while you still can….
