CoffeeBerry: Coffee beans are grown inside a big red Superfruit?

Over 108.3 million people in the US drink coffee, that’s approximately half of the population!  I’ll be the first to admit that it isn’t a good idea to talk to me in the morning before I’ve had my first cup.  But I never knew that the coffee bean is actually the seed grown inside a small fruit called the “Coffee Berry”! It’s a red berry looking fruit and has always been discarded when harvesting the coffee beans for our good ole cup of Joe because like other fruits, it is highly perishable.  So when I first heard about the coffee berry and its health benefits, I was really intrigued.  I’m already drinking coffee but realized I’m missing out on the benefits of the fruit that contains the bean.

The farmers in Southern Mexico have used the coffee berry and reaped the benefits for centuries using it to make wine, medicine and super charged energy drinks.  But because the fruit is hard to keep stable once it is picked, coffee producers have always just thrown out this amazing, power packed fruit.  The workers in the fields harvesting coffee would often consume lots of the fruits while picking the coffee for the beans and were super healthy, hearty and often free of disease.  Finally, someone figured out that the coffee berry fruit was absolutely packed with good nutrition and contains the highest anti-oxidant of any fruit.  In fact, it takes 625 grams of blueberries to match the antioxidant protection in just 1 gram of coffee berry.

The problem in making this main stream has been in making the fruit available to consumers.  The best coffee fruit flourishes at high elevations and has to be harvested at exactly the right time to retain its health benefits.  Once the berry is picked it is only fresh for 1 – 2 days.  So a process had to be discovered to harvest this valuable fruit and bring it to the general population.  After years of research and trial and error, a company called Sozolife has accomplished this goal. The CoffeeBerry® process has three patents and is proven to keep the integrity of the coffee fruit and keep its nutritional value. Processing begins the minute that the whole coffee fruit is picked in order to preserve the great health benefits.

Extensive research indicates that the compounds present in the whole coffee fruit may assist in: Neutralizing free radicals, supporting proper glucose metabolism, promoting better cardiovascular function, providing healthy energy boosts, increasing focus and mental clarity, and reduce the risk of diabetes.  Because the coffee berries are so high in plant polyphenols, they may even lower your chances of developing Alzheimer’s.  Antioxidants can help protect your skin against free radicals that cause aging symptoms, as well as heart disease and inflammatory skin problems. In fact, they contain more antioxidants than blueberries, raspberries or pomegranates combined.
