The Benefits of An Alkaline Diet for Cancer Patients

According to some health experts, 80% of Americans will have one of these three things happen to them — cancer, stroke, or heart attack — in their lifetime, and most of them agree that this has something to do with diet.

For cancer patients, there are specific dietary changes that must be done and one of them is shifting to an alkaline kind of diet.

Importance of an Alkaline Diet

There is general agreement amongst natural healers and medical professionals alike that changing a cancer patient’s diet is crucial for complete recovery.

The alkaline diet mainly focusses on plant-based whole foods composed of primary vegetables, with a small amount of sweet fruits, whole grains, and lean protein. Processed sugar, refined grains, fatty foods, among many other processed foods should be avoided at all cost.

Most people in the Western World eat a diet that promotes inflammation and increases cellular pH, which both provide the perfect environment for cancer to thrive.

According to Keiichi Morishita in his book, Hidden Truth of Cancer, when your blood starts to become acidic, your body deposits acidic substances (usually toxins) into cells to allow the blood to remain whitin its tight, slightly alkaline borders. This causes your cells to become more acidic and toxic, which results in a decrease of their oxygen levels, and harms their DNA and respiratory enzymes. This may lead to the development of malignant cells, or cancer cells.

It Has Nothing to Do with Food pH

What you eat can affect your condition profoundly. However, do not focus on the acidity or the alkalinity of the food you eat. There are acidic foods which, when ingested, metabolized, and their minerals dissociated in the blood, have alkalizing effects. Take lemon for example.

Therefore, focus more on how you make food choices and how your diet can have an enormous impact on the healing process.

Alkaline Diet Tips and Tricks for Cancer Patients

Limiting consumption of processed meats and red meats is a good decision to make. In the same way, make a complete turnaround by eating various fruits, vegetables, beans, and whole grains. If you must drink alcohol, do it in moderation.

And here’s more:

  • Eliminate sugar

Sugar metabolism creates acids and triggers an insulin response. Both of these favor cancer cell development. Be particularly wary of fructose or fruit sugar. Naturally sourced sugar from fruits has been found to increase the rate of cancer cell division by 200%. Instead, opt for highly alkaline fruits such as tomato, rhubarb, pomegranate, lime, lemon, grapefruit, coconut, and avocado.

  • Eliminate Gluten

Studies have shown that dishes free from gluten are more likely to be alkaline than acidic. For this, avoid gluten-rich foods such as wheat, spelt, rye, and barley. MSG, brown rice syrup, oats, and certain flavorings also contain gluten. Read labels with a questioning spirit and don’t take the words of manufacturers at face value.

  • Get to Know Your Oils and Fats

Check the oil (or fat) you’re using. It is either acidic or alkaline. To the acidic group belong saturated fats, margarine (tagged as worse than butter), and hydrogenated oils. Sunflower oil, corn oil, and vegetable oil must also be avoided.

Tweak your dishes so you can use members of the alkaline group. Coconut, olive, avocado, hemp, and flaxseed oil are all healthier alternatives.

  • Go For Alkaline Vegetables

Eating almost any kind of vegetables is safe. Health authorities have difficulty finding vegetables that are acidic. Do the A-Z for vegetables and all of them you can eat. From A, you can have asparagus, arugula, and artichokes. Down at Z, you can have zucchini. All the others in between are safely alkaline, too.

  • Reduce Meat

All kinds of meat are acidic. Try to reduce your meat intake and opt for organic meat to avoid hormones, antibiotics, and other nasty chemicals.

  • Stay Away From Dairy Products

Most dairy products, except unsweetened plain cultured yogurt, are acidic. Stop eating ice cream, flavored and sweetened yogurt, and cream.  Unfortunately, you also have to do away with cheese, milk, and eggs.

  • Drink Water

Don’t forget water. It’s alkaline. Drink lots of it.

Although stricken with cancer, this is not the end for cancer patients. One can still live normally and be productive. Start by “thinking alkaline” when planning what you will put on the table and start healing your body from the inside out.
