A Modern Master Cleanse, Doctor Recommended

There’s no end to the number of celebrities, alternative health practitioners, and spiritually-minded individuals who rave about the benefits of the Master Cleanse. It is reported to assist in everything from weight loss to beating diseases, as well as giving people time to reflect on their attachment to food. For many people, however, going a minimum of 10 days drinking nothing but lemonade sounds impossible. People worry about not getting enough nutrients, being overwhelmed by hunger, and the toll it would take on their social lives. Whether the concerns are justified is irrelevant; the fact is that most people simply won’t do it.

Another concern is the long-term effects. The Master Cleanse may help in the short-run, but it can’t be sustained forever. For the purposes of overcoming an illness, it may be fine to use the Master Cleanse as needed, but for long-term weight management or healthy living goals it doesn’t fit. There is a better way. Dr. Michael Horwitz developed his own Lemonade Diet to solve the long-term problem. His Lemonade Diet is not the same as the Master Cleanse, which is also known as the Lemonade Diet and by its correct name The Master Cleanser. Dr. Horwitz suggests incorporating a day or two of drinking the lemonade each week, which is something anyone could do throughout their lives.

Lemonade diet recipe

½ organic lemon juiced or 2 tablespoons of lemon juice

2 tablespoons grade B maple syrup (organic is best)

1/10 tablespoons cayenne pepper, or more to taste

8 ounces water

Lemonade diet schedule

Instead of going 10 straight days, or more, lugging around a bottle of pre-made lemonade, Dr. Horwitz’s lemonade diet is significantly easier. Pick one 24-hour period to start and make it from noon one day to noon the next. For example, eat a regular breakfast on Wednesday and then fast from noon that day until noon on Thursday. You could then eat regularly Thursday afternoon.

Once you grow accustomed to one day a week of lemonade dieting, choose a second, nonconsecutive day. By following this plan, you only have to diet two days a week, and you don’t even have to go an entire day without food. But by doing this on a weekly basis, you’re constantly cleaning your body out during those 24-hour periods, and you’re giving your digestive system a break. You’ll also find that your cravings for unhealthy food lessen. Anyone who’s ever done the 10-day Master Cleanse can attest to the fact that consuming only lemonade for a significant length of time makes you crave food, any food, and mostly healthy, whole foods. You’ll find yourself eating better on your regular eating days without even trying.

Lemonade diet benefits

  • Reduces cravings for junk food
  • Helps you lose weight and keep it off
  • Works as part of a healthy lifestyle
  • Improves discipline and willpower
  • Strengthens intuition
  • Decreases digestive issues
  • Detoxifies the body

Some important things to remember when using the Lemonade Diet is that nothing can substitute for a healthy lifestyle of exercise and smart eating choices, but this diet will give you energy and strength to follow through with those tenets. Although dieting for only 24 hours is easy as pie compared to 10 days in a row, you may still get bored of drinking lemonade. Herbal tea and water is okay to drink on your diet days, but don’t make any substitutions, such as buying store bought lemonade or using a sweetener other than grade B maple syrup.
