You may think your diet is good and healthy, but many of the foods you’re likely eating are quite high in sugar. Sugar hides behind 54 different names and lurks in many seemingly “healthy” foods. Sweet stuff is absolutely everywhere and that food companies use clever little tricks to disguise this from us when it comes to food labels. Often the Big Food companies reduce fat and calories by adding sugar and artificial flavouring.

8 Foods That Are Hidden Sugar Bombs

Flavored Yogurt
All yogurts contain some sugar in the form of lactose. Flavored yogurts have so much sugar that they’re most appropriate for dessert. A serving-size cup of Yoplait Original Yogurt can have as much as 26 grams of sugar per serving. That’s almost as much sugar as you’d consume eating a cup of ice cream.

Low Fat Foods
Fat is flavorful. So how do health food companies keep low fat food from tasting like cardboard? They replace the fat with sugar. Just because something is low fat doesn’t mean it’s healthy. Read the nutrition label to see the nutritional value the food may really have.

Sports Drinks & Fruit Juice
Think twice before hydrating with a sports drink after a hard workout. Just one drink contain 5 teaspoons of sugar, according to Harvard University. Orange juice is even worse, containing 10 teaspoons, the same as a can of soda.

White wine
White wine also have hidden sugar and sugar in white wine typically depends on the kind of wine you’re drinking. Dryer wines tend to have less sugar—around 1.5 grams per glass, while sweet wines can have 6 grams per glass.

Protein Bars
Protein bars contain lot of sugar, some protein bars contain up to 30g of sugar. Pick bars that contains more than 20g of protein and limit sugar to no more than 5% of the bar’s total calories.

Dried Fruit
Dried fruit you have in the mix is very high in sugar. Check if the dried fruit you’re eating has added sugar, and be careful with portion control.

Nut butters
Nut butters can have added sugar. Check the label and make sure that there isn’t anything extra added. You can even try one that is “roasted” for extra flavor without sugar or oils.

Oatmeal
Sugar in flavored oatmeal can negate the heart healthy benefits. Oatmeal may be a bit controversial as a fat loss food but I know a lot of people eat it. So, if you are a fan of oatmeal and it works for you, just make sure the only ingredient is “oatmeal”.
