5 Natural Products to Treat Gray Hair

In this day and age, when preserving a youthful appearance is important to men and women both, the appearance of gray hair – especially if it is premature – is definitely a cause for concern. While it is possible to get hair colored in a salon or even do it yourself with over the counter products, there is reason to pause. Many commercial hair colorants contain ammonia and other harsh chemicals that can cause scalp irritation or damage, infection or even hair loss. On the other hand, there are also some surprising natural treatments out there to treat gray hair without this possible complications and 5 of them are discussed below.

Coconut Oil and Curry Leaves
While coconut oil acts as a base for this treatment to moisturize and nourish your hair and scalp, curry leaves have long been used in the Ayurvedic tradition in compounds to help cover gray hair. To make at home, mix the oil into the curry leaves, then boil them slowly in the saucepan and strain, then allow oil to cool. Massage it into the hair and leave for 30 minutes or so, then wash hair with warm water and a gentle shampoo.

Indian Gooseberry
Amla has also been used for in Ayurvedic medicine for its medicinal properties and, like curry leaves, you can use a preparation of this to cover your gray streaks. Slice up the amla into small pieces and allow them to dry, then boil them in coconut oil and strain. After the mixture has cooled, massage it into hair and scalp. Keep in on for some time, then wash off with mild shampoo. An alternative amla treatment is to rinse your hair in the morning with water that has had amla soaking in it overnight.

Buttermilk and Curry Leaves
Mix curry and buttermilk together and apply this mixture to your hair an scalp, keeping it on for half an hour or so. Massage it gently into the scalp then rinse off in warm water. This is another simple treatment to stop the graying of your hair.

Carrot Seed and Sesame Oil
To prepare this treatment, blend about four tablespoons of carrot seed oil with a smaller amount of sesame seed oil and mix well. Massage the mixture gently into scalp and hair, keep it on for 30 minutes or so and then wash off with a milk shampoo and warm water; it is another excellent treatment for prevention of graying hair.

Lime Juice, Almond and Amla
This Ayurvedic compound of lime juice, amla and almond oil can also prevent gray hair and the three ingredients can be mixed up into a compound and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Massage the compound into the hair and scalp, leave on for half an hour, then wash hair with a mild shampoo and cold water. This treatment can be applied every day if needed.
