Top 6 Benefits and Uses of Argan Oil for Skin and Hair

The Argan Forest of Morocco is so revered that it was made a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1998 to preserve its beauty — and bounty – for future generations. One of the reasons this area has been so esteemed is that is it the source of the tree whose nut supplies the world with argan oil.

Argan oil has been pressed from the nuts of this tree for generations of the native people of this forest and has long been used to promote wound healing, supplement the diet, and to achieve beautiful skin and hair. Read on to find out more about this exotic oil and about the many different ways you can use it for your hair and skin.

Nighttime Moisturizer

After cleansing your face and patting dry, place a single drop of argan oil in your palm, warm it, then apply it gently all over your face (you may need a second drop in the winter months, when skin tends to be drier). Rub in lightly. Argan oil is safe even for the delicate area around your eyes, and because it is rich in Vitamins A and E, it will moisturize and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

Skin Toner

To make your own all-natural skin toner, pour one cup of boiling water over a green tea bag and let it steep for 7-10 minutes, then remove bag and let the tea cool. Add a drop or two of lemon oil and 2-4 drops argan oil then put it in a sealed jar. Use morning and night as an intermediated step between cleansing and moisturizing.

Exfoliator

For a wonderful, natural exfoliator, mix a tablespoon of brown sugar and a cup of drops of argan oil together, then gently apply it to your face and rub it in for several minutes. This will help remove dead skin cells and keep your pore open, giving your complexion and fresh and healthy glow. It can also help reduce fine lines or wrinkles.

Acne Treatment

Argan has also been proved to reduce sebum levels for women with oily skin and its high content of linoleic acid helps to reduce inflammation that acne can often bring with it. To use, simple dab a drop of the argan oil onto your fingertip and apply it directly to the problem areas; it can be used alone or together with tea tree oil for great results.

Leave-In Conditioner

Argan is wonderful for the hair as well as the skin and because it is not greasy, this oil makes a wonderful leave-in conditioning treatment and may even help promote hair growth. Put several drops of oil in your palms, warm it, and rake your fingers through your hair to apply it, paying close attention to the tips.

Deep Conditioning Treatment

For a deep conditioning treatment once a week, warm 4-10 drops of this oil and apply it from your scalp to your ends and place a shower cap on your head overnight. In the morning, get up and shampoo and condition as usual.

So get creative! These are just a few of the many ways that argan oil can help you stay beautiful and keep your skin looking its best. It is truly one of the most effective and versatile all-natural beauty treatments.
