Growing older is inevitable, but looking older isn’t. Brown spots, wrinkles, fine lines: All of these are bound to hit every woman eventually. If there were a magical way to postpone these signs of aging that will let you grow older gracefully, why wouldn’t you do it?

Knowing that there are ways to slow down time is one thing, but motivating yourself to do them regularly is another. Put your excuses away, because these tips are pretty easy and can be quickly integrated into your daily life.

1. Make Exercise Part of Your Daily Routine.

Whether it be going for a three-mile run or simply taking the stairs, the efforts that you make will show up on your body. Keeping a healthy weight is vital to achieving a younger and more toned body with less cellulite and wrinkles. Choosing a short 15-minute workout that you can easily do each morning or evening is a great way to stay fit.

2. Find Ways to De-Stress.

We all have daily stressors, pressures and nuisances. They’re impossible to avoid. The vital part is figuring out how to handle your stresses so that they don’t show up all over your face. Maybe it’s yoga, meditation or another hobby that will work to ease your tensions. Stress can be a leading factor of maintaining an unhealthy lifestyle. The right de-stressor could replace reaching for a bag of potato chips with something that’s actually beneficial every time a situation gets rocky.

3. Avoid Excessive Drinking.

Unfortunately, alcohol does not do much good for your complexion, and you can actually become more sensitive to it as you age. It can make health issues and your complexion worse. Alcohol dehydrates your skin and can cause reddening and irritation. Learning which alcohols you should steer clear of and which ones are OK to indulge in is one proactive way to fight the repercussions that could show up on your skin.

4. Take Your Vitamins.

Your nutrition plays a pivotal role in the aging process. You should be taking your daily vitamins. They can help firm your skin, reduce wrinkles and fight those age spots. Niacin and vitamins A, C, E and K are all important when it comes to combatting aging. Making sure you have an appropriate amount of these is a good step in slowing down the aging process.

5. Use a Daily SPF.

The sun can be pretty brutal on your skin. Brown spots and sun marks are a few symptoms of too much sun. So if you’re getting rays on a regular basis, it’s time to invest in a daily SPF or at least a moisturizer that contains one. Elizabeth L. Tanzi, dermatologist and co-director of the Washington Institute of Dermatologic Laser Surgery in Washington, D.C., said that “You can call sunscreen one of the only true antiaging ingredients on the market today.”

6. Put Away the Cigarettes.

If you needed another reason to quit smoking, this would be it. We all know that it can do terrible things to your insides, but the toll it takes on your appearance is irreversible. Bags under your eyes, stained teeth, extra wrinkles, yellow fingers and thinning hair are just a few of the things that smoking causes that are sure to pack on a few years to your appearance.

Aging or not, these are six healthy habits that every woman should be including in her life. Not doing these things will cause those signs of aging show up all over your body. When it comes to first impressions, consider the kind you’d like to make. It probably doesn’t include stained teeth or wrinkles.
