Benefits of drinking golden milk

The main ingredient in this drink (turmeric) has many proven benefits. Thousands of studies show that turmeric fights inflammation, arthritis, cancer, diabetes, obesity, chronic diseases, stroke, and so on.

The benefits of turmeric come from curcumin. A compound that has strong antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. And as you may know, inflammation is the cause of most chronic diseases.

Here are benefits of curcumin you should know:

  • Regulates cholesterol levels
  • Reduces risk of different cancers
  • Improves heart health
  • Strengthens immune system
  • Cleanses the liver
  • ControlsGi blood sugar levels

Benefits of coconut milk

Coconut milk is another powerful ingredient in this drink. It boosts energy levels, enhances weight loss, improves brain function, benefits cardiovascular health, and controls blood sugar.

Additionally, coconut milk enhances absorption of nutrients from other foods into our bodies. It’ll even increase the bioavailability of turmeric.

The nutrients you’ll get from coconut milk include vitamins B, C, and E, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, and potassium.

Benefits of ginger

Ginger is yet another powerful ingredient. It’s popularly known for its therapeutic and anti-inflammatory properties.

Studies have linked it to better circulation, lower risk of cancer, better insulin sensitivity, normal blood pressure, better digestive health, and better respiratory health.

Sounds like an awesome recipe, thank you! When it comes to using coconut milk, or any other milk, wouldn’t most of it’s healthful aspects be lost by using store bought (non-fresh, pasteurized and processed) milk, even if it’s organic?

Good article. However, there are some lingering questions like:

    1. How much of this mixture is one to drink?
    2. How often can one drink it? Every night or every other night?
    3. Is it wise to make and store several days worth?
    4. What other milk can be used to make this if not using coconut milk?
    5. Must this mixture be consumed hot/warm or cold/cool?

Been making this for years, and after lots of trial and error this is what I do: (by the way, “trial and error” means comparing ingredients, amounts mixed, total amount consumed, including with and without food or on an empty stomach, as well as time of day to drink it. For my personal best results:

Start with two cups of coconut milk (works better than regular milk. Almond milk is okay, but if you’re interested in the environment I don’t recommend almond because (most people don’t know) it takes an insane amount of water to produce almonds, especially almond milk. Rice milk doesn’t work b/c it separates and turns gross. Flax milk is okay but bland, with little “body” to it. Coconut just gives it a good mellow texture and taste.

Then add 1 tsp turmeric for every two cups of milk. I up the black pepper to a half tsp for every two cups of milk. The honey is only 1 tsp per two cups of milk.

The ginger is debatable. I usually (finely) chop a tablespoon of ginger per two cups of milk. I also add a 1/2 teaspoon of ginger root powder to kick it up just a tad. If using ginger root powder, add it last, after everything else has had a moment to heat and brew.

It stores in the fridge just fine for several days. I brew half gallons and use through the week. I’ve never exceeded 7 days in the fridge.

More than a cup per day won’t harm you. Just know that Turmeric has a strong color, so you might notice some darker urine, but you might not… And you have to consume a LOT of this before you have any negative effect. Turmeric is high in minerals and anti-inflammatory properties, although I’ve heard that because it’s a good source of body soluble iron you might run into problems with thicker blood if you consume more than 7-10 tablespoons per day (that’s a ridiculous amount of turmeric for one person, so the chance is slim to none.

Serving size is only half a cup per night, for the first few nights. Then one full cup per night after you get adjusted to it. Drink at least one full hour before bed. I prefer 90 minutes.

Hot or cold. But warm hits the spot in winter.

There is a turmeric user group on Facebook with thorough instructions for making golden milk or golden paste which can be frozen and stored longer than milk. Discussion topics and instructions are archived in files section.
