The Banana stem is really not a stem at all; it is the flower stalk of the banana plant. The thick stalks grow up from the ground and form the backbone of the herbaceous plant. The edible part of the Banana stem is the inner portion of the fibrous stalk.
Banana stem is high in fiber and can aid in the treatment of ulcers or an acidic stomach. Like the fruit, Banana stem is very high in potassium and vitamin B6, which together benefit the muscles and the body’s production of hemoglobin and insulin.
The fiber in banana stem helps to cure constipation and detoxify the body. The use of banana to eliminate kidney stones cannot be overlooked. Banana stem is also good taken as a juice or soup which helps eliminate and treat kidney stone.
Fight Cancer
Bananas not only boosted the white blood cell count in the blood, but also inhibited the growth of cancer cells through inducing their bodies to produce a powerful substance called TNF. When consumed, over-ripe bananas enable the body to produce a potent substance that is known to prevent and fight cancer. This natural miracle substance is known as the Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF).
Diabetes
Being high in potassium and vitamin B6, banana stem helps regulate the body’s production of hemoglobin and insulin. This helps reduce blood sugar spikes. Researchers also found that the more ripe banana, the higher its glycemic index. This is thought to be because the starch makes up about 80 to 90% of its carbohydrates. As the banana gets riper, it changes to free more sugars.
Fight Intestinal Inflammation
Bananas are recommended as part of an anti-inflammatory diet to treat inflammatory bowel disease. They’re good sources of soluble fiber, which is fermented by bacteria in your large intestine. During fermentation, inflammation-fighting substances such as butyrate are produced. When banana fiber is fermented, it also serves as a source of fuel for bacteria, which helps them thrive.
