A Spoonful of Sugar/Poison Helps the Medicine Go Down

Sugar. This is a topic I have, admittedly, been avoiding for some time now. You see I am somewhat addicted to white sugar. This sweet stuff is the element that makes my tea worth drinking. Oh I have tried honey, and artificial sweeteners (also poison) but nothing compares to the sweet warm taste of real white sugar. *Sigh*

“How bad can the white stuff actually be,” you ask? I hate to be the bearer of bad news, BUT, this stuff is no better than poison to our bodies. I recently watched a segment from YouTube (see below) on the negative health effects of white sugar. This is only a short clip but it opened my eyes enough that I know I can no longer keep putting this stuff into my body. Trust me, give your self 5 minutes and watch this video.

The truth about white sugar

We all know some of the negative side effects of white sugar. It causes our blood sugar levels to spike and that roller coaster of glucose levels in considered a “pre-diabetic” symptom. To maintain high levels of energy, without the roller coaster, we need protein and complex grains; not white sugars.

This white stuff also has an adverse effect on our immune system and even causes premature aging. WOW!! Talk about everything we are trying to avoid in our journey to better health!

I loved the “real-life” examples from the above video. I thought that a tall glass of orange juice in the morning was a great healthy choice. Also, who doesn’t grab a bagel as a healthy breakfast option!? I had to shake my head at what just one bagel was equivalent to in grams of sugar!

This just shows how educated we need to become so that we are not wasting our efforts to lead a clean, healthy lifestyle. Please… from one addicted “sugar-a-holic” to another, watch this video and we will talk about changes we can both make to our choices to cut this white poison out without feeling deprived… and no… turning to artificial sweeteners is not the answer!

Until next time, stay healthy!
