7 Simple ways to whiten teeth at home

In recent years, a healthy set of white and sparkling teeth have become a beauty “must have”. However, professional whitening products or having the teeth whitened at a dentist’s or other professional, can cost a lot of money. There are less expensive ways to whiten teeth in the home which will have them looking their bright white best without the prohibitive cost.

Brush and Floss Every Day
This might sound obvious, but the key to healthy, sparkling teeth remains to keep them brushed and flossed daily. Poorly-brushed teeth are more likely to have deposits of plaque which can give them a yellowed look and can also lead to damaged tooth enamel. So if a bright white smile is desired, reach for the tooth brush and floss!

Avoid Foods and Drinks that Stain
Avoiding certain foods and drinks that are likely to stain the teeth – like those that contain tannins, dark colors or strong spices – can also go a long way to keeping your whites – well, white. Two the biggest culprits here are coffee and tea. Think about what they can do to the inside of white coffee cup if they sit there too long! If avoiding them is not possible, be sure at least to brush and floss right afterwards.

Rinse with a Whitening Mouthwash
Mouthwash is generally a good idea for oral health because it helps to kill of bacteria that even the flossing can’t get to, and also helps to fight bad breath and prevent cavity formation. However, there are many mouthwashes that can be used for their brightening properties as well, so this can whiten the teeth while also taking care of the health of the mouth in general.

Plus White 5
There are many DIY whitening treatments available on the market, and some of them can be quite expensive. One that is both affordable and effective is Plus White 5. Although it is slow-acting and can take 2 weeks to achieve its full whitening effect, it is also extremely gentle and great for those with sensitive teeth.

Whitening Strips
The Crest 3D whitening strips are also a convenient and very effective way to whiten the teeth and the effects can last a long time. The strips themselves are very convenient but they can leave the gums feeling sensitive, so this is not for people who have delicate gums.

Activated Charcoal
This sounds strange to people, but activated charcoal is one of the best whitening strategies, since it removes impurities. It is particularly effective at removing stains caused by coffee, tea and wine.

Oil Pulling
This Ayurvedic therapy has become increasing popular in recent times. It involves swishing oils such as coconut oil around in the mouth for 20 minutes and letting the oil “pull out” the bacteria and other impurities, then spitting it out to remove them. It can be a good way – if a long one – to improve oral health and tooth whiteness.

So don’t go spending a fortunate in quest of sparkly whites! These DIY home treatments are all inexpensive and can also result in a bright white smile, but at the fraction of the cost of professional treatments.
